This led to the start of Waterbury’s manufacturing, making it soon known as the “Brass Capitol of the World.” The beginning of the brass industry in Waterbury attracted many immigrant laborers from all across the world, giving the city its diverse population. Other items in Waterbury manufactured over the next century were: copper and silverware. Production in factories began to slow down in the 1920s, with many factories closing down production and affecting the city’s economy.
