About Cheshire

Cheshire is a town rich in history and things to do. Settles in 1694 as originally apart of Wallingford and Prospect, but settled as an independent town in 1780 from Wallingford and was independent from Prospect in 1829 . The name Cheshire comes from the county Cheshire in Northwest England. In the post-World War II era, there was a rise of industry and housing in the town. Cheshire to this day has many historical facts that residents do not know about including a Cold War preparedness shelter from 1966 located under the AT&T tower. Cheshire currently has a historic district with 56 buildings and a cemetery. A majority of the district contain historic buildings with only 3% that are modern buildings. 

Other points of interest with Cheshire include: museums, parks, trails and more. The Barker Character, Comic and Cartoon Museum  has memorabilia of everything from old t.v characters and cartoons to lunch boxes and Pez dispensers. Since Cheshire is located in the Central Naugatuck Valley, with parts near the Naugatuck River. In this area, there are fun activities to do from hiking to fishing and even boating.
